For my first published news article, entitled "Meet Huntington East Middle School’s Therapy Dog," I got the amazing opportunity to shine a spotlight on my local community. The story, which was honored with an Award of Excellence from the Communicator Awards, can also be found in the "Audio" section on this portfolio as a radio story.
As part of a Digital Presence class at Marshall, I wrote a hypothetical pitch letter to my professor. I chose to focus on a real-world issue I encountered as a young sports journalist: a growing lack of authenticity in the field. Although it was just an assignment, I found I was writing with real conviction.
Furthermore, I also created a LinkedIn post to go along with the assignment. I chose to share some of the knowledge and skills I have learned in my young career so far, in order to hopefully help other young journalists.
