For my first published news article, entitled "Meet Huntington East Middle School’s Therapy Dog," I got the amazing opportunity to shine a spotlight on my local community. The story, which was nominated for a Hearst award, can also be found in the "Audio" section on this portfolio as a radio story.
As part of a Digital Presence class at Marshall, I wrote a hypothetical pitch letter to my professor. I chose to focus on a real-world issue I encountered as a young sports journalist: a growing lack of authenticity in the field. Although it was just an assignment, I found I was writing with real conviction.
Furthermore, I also created a LinkedIn post to go along with the assignment. I chose to share some of the knowledge and skills I have learned in my young career so far, in order to hopefully help other young journalists.
